How can I take a Texas State electrician examintation?

The National Electric Code (NEC) 2011 was recently adopted by TDLR.

Many of you will be purchasing the new code book and we would like to remind you that loose leaf NEC code books such as spiral-bound or ring-bound books will NOT be allowed in the PSI test centers. Furthermore, candidates are not permitted to bring in any additional papers (loose or attached) with their approved reference. For more detailed information about taking examinations at PSI please
download the Electrician Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB) on the TDLR web site.

New Texas Electrician Examinations and Testing Service!
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has entered into a new contract with PSI to develop, maintain and deliver licensing examinations.
This new contract, the resulting examinations, and a new application process will change how electricians get licensed in Texas. A summary of the changes can be found below. These changes went into effect on September 1, 2009.
VERY IMPORTANT: ICC examinations taken on or after September 1, 2009 will NOT be accepted for Texas electrician licensing.

Instead of taking the examination and then applying to the department for a license, electricians will first make application to the department and then, if they are eligible, will be notified by mail that they may make an appointment to sit for their examination.

PSI will deliver new Texas electrician examinations at 22 sites around the state. See www.psiexams.com for additional information about PSI. These new TDLR examinations have been developed by Texas electrician subject matter experts. Information about the new examinations and applications may be found on the TDLR web site:
http://www.license.state.tx.us/electricians/elecexam.htm

Please contact T.D.L.R at examination@license.state.tx.us, for further assistance.

How does the license renewal process work?
In order to renew a Texas State electrical license, you must;
--- {You should ALWAYS renew your license BEFORE it expires!It is illegal to perform electrical work (requiring a license) if your license is expired!}
1. Each year, you must obtain the required Continuing Education. (See Sec. 1305.168. Continuing Education.)
----You can obtain all of the required Continuing Education HERE by purchasing a course from us, and then completing it.
2. We will notify the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation that you have obtained the required Continuing Education.

3. You must then contact the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to renew your license.
--- The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, is the ONLY agency that can renew your state electrical license! (see below)

Can I renew my Texas Electricians license online?
Yes!
 Provided you have met all of the state requirements, you will be able renew your electrician license online by clicking HERE.
You must obtain the required continuing education before license renewal (except for apprentices, and contractors). You should complete continuing education BEFORE your license expires (you can do this at anytime during the year preceeding your license expiration, so do it early), and renew your license BEFORE it expires.
It is illegal to work with an expired license, and can become VERY costly if you are caught performing non-exempt electrical work. An expired license will cost you 1 & 1/2 times the normal license renewal fee if it has been expired for less than 90 days, and 2 times the normal license renewal fee if expired more than 90 days but less than one year, so you gain nothing by allowing your license to expire, but risk very high fines, or possable imposition of administrative penalties by the state.

I have purchased the course, and downloaded the file, and saved it to my computer, but I can't open it!
If you're using Windows XP (or later), then your operating system already has built-in support for Zip files. They are described as "Compressed (zipped) folders." Just double-click on a Zip file and it will open in Explorer, just like a folder.

If you're using Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT or Windows 2000 then you'll need to install a special application to open Zip files. The application that is usually recommended to use is WinZip. WinZip became popular because it was the "first ever" Zip / Unzip utility for Windows. It has a free trial for 45 days, but for longer use the cost is $29.95.

So instead of WinZip, here is a free alternative, you can open not only our .zip download file, but any others as well.

Go to the below address (click on the link), enter your e-mail address and download the software for free.
